Old vineyards planted generations ago. Flysch and marl soils with plenty of shell limestone formed 3 million years ago and more than 100 different tiny sites with considerably varying soil formations. Warm winds streaming in from the Pannonian plains versus the cooling influence of the Vienna Woods and the Danube River. All these unique factors produce great wines.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>

The history of the winery goes back as far as 1683. In 1817, Ludwig van Beethoven resided in this romantic suburban house, which is protected as a historic monument. During his time in Heiligenstadt, he worked on his 9th symphony.<\/span><\/p>\n

Franz Mayer was the face of modern viticulture. It is not without reason that he is still referred to as the doyen of Viennese viticulture.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Hans Schmid, owner and visionary, who has always been fascinated by the unique and picturesque wine landscape of Vienna. His aim to lead the winery back to the top of Austrian viticulture was achieved within a few years together with the capable and young team around managing director Gerhard J. Lobner. Weingut Mayer am Pfarrplatz is considered today as the figurehead of Viennese viticulture, attracting attention on a national and international scale with its innovative spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/p>\n

Once dismissed as a simple wine, today Vienna’s pride. For generations, our house has been producing this wine style from Gr\u00fcner Veltliner, Riesling, Rotgipfler and Zierfandler grapes. Planted, harvested and vinified together – this field blend bundles the characters of several expressive grape varieties and makes it unique in its aroma. With the vintage 2013, Wiener Gemischter Satz was awarded the status of a DAC \u2013 a protected designation of origin. It is one of the Austrian wines with the longest tradition and a part of Vienna’s identity as a wine-growing city.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
